Today let’s review some of the things you can do this Thanksgiving to keep your mouth cavity free.
Take it Easy With the Sweets
We wouldn’t really be dentists if you didn’t warn you against the dangers of sugar. So hear us out one more time. Consuming large amounts of sugar puts you at a higher risk of tooth decay. It’s not so much the sugar that is dangerous, but rather that the sugar will mix with bacteria in your mouth (we all have bacteria in our mouths) that creates harmful acid that can cause tooth decay. Other than sweets, carbohydrates and have a similar reaction with bacteria in your mouth. If you consume a lot of sweets or carbohydrates during your Thanksgiving meal, then be sure to rinse your mouth out with water to remove the sugar from your teeth.
Don’t Stain Your Teeth
Some of us are more susceptible to dental stains than others. We’ve seen patients who are heavy coffee drinkers and have virtually little to no dental stains, and then we treat others who can’t seem to drink anything dark without staining their teeth. If you’re one of the people who struggles with dental stains, stay away from stain-causing foods at the Thanksgiving feast. These are foods like cranberry sauce, coffee, tea, red wine. If it can stain a white shirt, it can probably stain your teeth.
If you need some whitening touchups, don’t hesitate to ask us about our professional teeth whitening services. We offer a number of whitening treatments and can drastically improve the shade of your teeth.
Remember to Brush and Floss
Some of the best Thanksgiving foods either get stuck in your teeth or contain high levels of sugar. So it’s important to keep your regular at-home routine of brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing after your meal.
Keep in mind that plague, the sticky substance that can damage teeth, can form within just eight hours.
These are just a few things to consider during this holiday and holiday season. Tocci Dental Associates wishes you a happy and safe Thanksgiving. We’re here for all of your dental needs. You can reach us at 781-304-8172 to book a visit.
