We understand that it’s not a matter of simple “getting over it” or “toughing it out” when you are afraid of visiting the dentist. If you want to see a gentle and caring team that will understand your fears and do everything possible to help relieve your dental anxiety, call Tocci Dental Associates at 781-304-8172 when you’re feeling up to it.
We offer a wide range of dental services at our Wellesley, MA dentist office. Whether you are visiting us for a simple and routine dental cleaning and exam, you want to explore your cosmetic dentistry options, or you’re in need of a complex full-mouth reconstruction, we will deliver the same compassionate care that our patients have learned to expect from us.
We also see patients of all ages so you won’t have to juggle several appointments and locations to get you and your loved ones all of the dental care options your smiles need.
To take the financial concerns out of the dental situation – or at least to give you options and reduce your worries – we accept a variety of payment options. We even take third-party financing through CareCredit, a company that provides interest-free options for some patients without dental insurance. Don’t avoid the dentist because you feel you can’t afford treatment!
Scheduling can also make a stressful situation worse when it comes to booking dental appointments. To minimize that, we offer some flexible hours. Granted, we close a little early at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays, but we otherwise maintain the nine-to-five schedule you expect and offer hours on top of that! Our office staff:
- Opens early at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesdays
- Starts the day even earlier at 7:00 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays
- Stays late until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday
Find an appointment that works for you! If you’re especially nervous, you should consider visiting us early. Many anxious patients find it helps if they get their care out of the way so they don’t fixate on the appointment beforehand.
See Our Gentle Team For Comfort Options & Dental Sedation
At our Wellesley, MA dentist office, we greet everyone who walks through our doors with a warm smile. First impressions are very important, as you know, and they only become more important when anxiety is thrown into the mix. Our calming, soothing team will do our best to make you feel welcomed from the moment you arrive and:
- Listen intently to your particular concerns, as well as your smile goals
- Answer any questions that you have using simple language instead of technical jargon
- Explain your treatment options using as much or as little detail as you like
- Make recommendations but also give you total agency when it comes to your dental treatment options
Another way we aim to help you feel as relaxed as possible when you are in our care is by providing various comfort options. Here are just a few of the amenities you can choose from to customize your visit and indulge in VIP treatment:
- iPods with noise-reduction headphones so you can listen to your favorite music while we work
- Streaming movie eyewear to entertain and distract you while getting dental treatments
- Aromatherapy options to soothe your nerves
- Neck and eye wraps to help you relax
- Massage chairs to loosen up any tension you’re carrying
- Heated blankets to keep you nice and cozy
And if all that doesn’t put you at ease, we also offer dental sedation in the form of nitrous oxide.
More commonly known as “laughing gas,” nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask and takes effect in moments. You’ll start breathing in a mixture of the gas and oxygen and start feeling a mild euphoria. You’ll stay awake during treatment so we can communicate with you but all of your stress will quickly melt away. It also wears off quickly so you’ll be able to drive yourself to and from your appointment with no problems.
If there is anything that we can do to make your visits more pleasant, just let us know. We are happy to go above and beyond for our patients!
Try These Relaxation Techniques To Help Soothe Anxiety
Of course, we’ll do everything we can to help you, but some patients experience major anxiety before they even arrive at our office. If that describes your situation, you can try some relaxation techniques to self-soothe and maintain your momentum to visit us.
Many patients find breathing techniques useful. For example, some have told us that breathing in as slowly and deeply as possible helps regulate the pulse and produces a calming sensation. Others focus on the various physical feelings associated with breathing, like the cool gust of exhaled air on your bottom lip when you push breath out in a steady stream.
Still other patients find it helpful to focus on their body. Try picking a group of muscles, tensing them up, and then releasing all of that tension. You may even realize that you were holding tension without knowing it. Try doing this one muscle group at a time until you’ve relaxed your whole body.
Another common tactic is thinking of something pleasant. Maybe you have a positive childhood memory you often return to. Some even pick out essential oils that remind them of a particular memory and take a small whiff from the tiny bottles to calm their nerves.
Remember That You Are Not Alone And We Can Help
Did you know that as many as 20 percent of all Americans experience dental anxiety for one reason or another. Maybe you had a particularly negative experience at the dentist when you were little. Or perhaps you’ve just seen one too many movies or television shows that feature a sadistic dentist character.
No matter the cause, we will help you find the solution so you can relax at the dentist and stop putting off the care that your smile needs!
