Take a breath. It’s going to be OK.

You can get through your next dental visit with the help of dental sedation and the caring team at our office in Wellesley, MA.

Millions of Americans struggle with dental anxiety to one degree or another. Expert opinions vary, but as many as one in five people avoid getting the care they need due to fear of the dentist.

At Tocci Dental Associates, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to return to the dentist chair. By working together, we are confident we can help you just as we’ve helped so many patients who now visit us regularly for cleanings, exams, and other dental services.

For many patients, the first step is getting to know us. You can do that by calling (781) 304-8172 today to schedule a consultation with our dentist, Dr. Jeffrey Tocci.

Why Sedation Helps

Dental anxiety can develop for a variety of reasons.

You may be afraid that your dental care will be painful. You may be worried that you will gag while you are in the dental chair.

It’s also possible that you have a bad experience with a dentist when you were younger. Maybe your dentist wasn’t concerned with your comfort, or maybe he or she was critical if your teeth weren’t perfect.

Or, maybe you saw a dentist character in a movie or television show that made you leary of visiting any dental office. (We promise we aren’t anything like the dentist in Little Shop of Horrors.)

Sedation can help put your mind at ease and ease the tension you may be holding in your body. We’ve seen plenty of patients tense up in a dental chair. The way you feel mentally affects how you act physically, too.

With the help of inhaled sedation, which you may know better as laughing gas, you can calm. Many patients tell us that they get a euphoric feeling as they breathe the gas. This helps them relax.

But it does something else — it prevents you from feeling pain. It also can stop you from feeling like you might gag. Both of those things are good for you and the person cleaning your teeth.

Dr. Tocci also has advanced training in oral conscious sedation for patients who may be interested in something a little stronger than laughing gas. Oral sedation is as simple as taking a dose of medication prior to your appointment so you will feel relaxed and remain pain-free throughout your dental care.

You must arrange for someone else to bring you to and from your appointment if you choose this option, however.

You also won’t find any judgmental dentists at our office. We are here to support you in your efforts to improve and maintain your dental health. If we find something that concerns us, we will let you know, not to belittle you, but to help you find the right solution to keep your mouth healthy.

A Little About Dr. Tocci

Our own Dr. Tocci got into dentistry after working in a dental lab. He saw and understood that quality dental care changes people’s lives.

Cosmetic dentistry boost patient’s self-confidence. Restorative dentistry lets people eat the foods that they love once again.

He also had training to treating TMJ problems (to alleviate jaw pains and headaches) and sleep apnea (to reduce or eliminate snoring and help you get deep, healthy sleep.)

In addition to his formal education at Georgetown University School of Dental Medicine, Dr. Tocci has made continuing education a priority as well. Over the years, he has completed several advanced training courses offered by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, and TruDenta.
